The shopping center was built in the 1950s. Starting 1980, the owner, David Bermant, started a collection of artwork, some quite controversial with the middle class residents.

Bir Bore was the first controversial piece, and it's been removed due to rust, not due to the protests. The other controversial piece is the Spindle: 8 cars on a 40 foot spike. Less controvesial are e.g. the Pinto Pelt: a Ford Pinto flattened against the wall.

On May 2nd 2008 the Spindle was destroyed.

Directions: Turn north onto Harlem Ave. for 1.8 miles, the Shopping Plaza is on the right at the intersection with Cermac Rd.
