A section of the 1926 alignment has een closed off for vehicle traffic and dedicated to walking the old concrete on foot. There are some signs to keep you companhy as well.
It was part of the Illinois State Bond Issue 4 (SBI-4, or IL-4), the direct predecessor to Route 66 in Illinois.
Note the red shed on the northern end of memory lane is a relic datign back to the construction of Illinois' Route 4. It was a tool and timekeeping wagon.
