Bob Waldmire

Very sorry to find out that we won't have Bob Waldmire, son of the Cozy Dog's Ed Waldmire, artist of 66 and the real "SPIRIT" of 66, around much longer.

He'll definitely be missed.

Bob is saying goodbye from his friends while fighting a loosing battle.
Extremely sad. Not just cause he is one of the characters of the road, not just because he's the type who would not harm any living being, ...

Too sad for words in all honesty.

The Chicago Tribune had an article today about Bob and an excellent video to go along with it.

I had the privilege of meeting Bob this past September. I was staying at the Blue Swallow and was outside enjoying the nice night and just looking at the road and taking it all in. When Bob came pulling up in his Mustang. He got out and came over to me to ask a question. I told him that I knew who he was and then he asked me if I knew who Ron and Emily were and what room they were staying in. I told him I met Ron and Emily earlier that evening but wasn't for sure wich room they were in. That was all we really said to each other. No pictures were taken because the camara was in the room and Bob looked pretty tired.

I feel very honored to meet him.

Bob is having his "Last Art Show" on November 22, 2009 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Cozy Dog Drive In located along South 6th Street/Route 66 in Springfield IL.

I had the good fortune of meeting him a couple years ago when I really became obsessed with Route 66. He was the first person to autograph my Illinois Route 66 map I had begun collecting postmarks on that very same day. The planets aligned and fate placed him there. I will truly cherish my memories & mementos of this great man. He was at the Cozy Dog and we shared on order of vinegar fries. He was painting his U Haul that day and getting ready to head back to Portal AZ. Since then I've seen him 2 other times. I hope to see him again next week and also on the 22nd. He is a true ICON of the Mother Road and will be missed by all.
