Cars 2 and Galena, KS

Postby La Regina on Tue Jun 23, 2009 5:34 pm

A couple of weeks ago a friend and I drove through Kansas on Route 66, to relive a few memories from 2007. Happilly we discovered a few positive changes as soon as we entered Galena. This thanks to four ambitious women. They restored the old gas station in the corner of the street where "Mater" is located. And Mater is the real Mater that stood inspiration to the character Tow Mater in the Disney movie Cars.
Enter the restored gas station and chat with the owner and she'll show you the e-mails and papers from Disney, confirming the fact. And she will also tell you about how "Mater" was almost lost. (You can also grab something to eat while you're there!)Mrs Rigg and her three friends robbed their husbands pockets and with the help of guestbooks, signed by visitors from all over the world, they raised enough money to start restoring the old part of town, that once was Route 66. At the moment a Farmer's market is under way and the grey old house across the street (it used to the a brothel) is planned to become a B'n'B for future guests. I say good luck to the four women and wish them all the best!

Mrs Rigg also give me insider information about Disney's next movie project, Cars 2.
The story is being written as we speak and might change but at the moment the storyline goes: Lightning McQueen and his Ladyfriend (sorry I can't remember her name) have baby cars together and he's taking them all over the world to prove that he once was a famous race car.

That's all for now, folks!

Re: Cars 2 and Galena, KS + travel channel

I remembered one more thing... We met this film crew in Williams and the next day we bumped into the same bunch in Oatman. It turns out that the Travel Channel is doing a Route 66 trip in a (beautiful) Cutlass Convertible. However they are faking a few takes. Pretending it's the 4th of July. Oatman has the famous egg fry contest the 4th
but they obviously didn't go there the 4th so they had the locals pretend but still the same, Route 66 will be aired on the Travel Channel in the near future.

Just thought I should add that. I'm sure some of you get the channel and might want to check it out. There's even a tiny chance that I'm in it because we drove by a couple of times in a van, not knowing what was going on, as they taped the streets in Williams.

I stopped by the corner gasoline station back in the summer of 2007 and met the 4 women one the route! They were just getting started (I think they had only been opened a couple of weeks or so) at the time...I can't wait to get back there and see the changes!
