Spam in the forum
Just a reminder:
We have a zero tolerance to spam in the forum. Spammers get their account deleted, get banned from getting a new account and the postings get removed from the forum.
What to do if you see spam in the forum:
Regular users are allowed to use signatures to point to their websites, this is not considered spam. But please do answer by more then just a link to your website, give the person asking a question the summary or at least the important part of the answer as well as pointing to a link for more information. This is mainly to allow others in the forum to contribute as well.
Get Your Kicks on Route 66!
Edit: updated to accommodate the new forum software's features.

In the ongoing battle against forum spammers I've disabled listing things like websites in the contact details. That should make the spam a bit more visible and hence easier to remove.
I apologize to all those that used these features for good causes.

Just a suggestion I use bbProtection on my forum. Most spammers don't even get to log in. If they do log in and post you can report them to bbprotection and they are added to the block list.
There is no fee for the service and I am not affliated with them, I just use it for my forum.

Spammers might note that all links they can introduce will carry a rel="nofollow" tag and thus are useless for gaining popularity with search engines anymore.
Just hoping to become a bit less attractive for spammers.
Useful Route 66 related websites can get link in the links section.

Re: Spam in the forum
Hi Swa,
I've not contacted you before but I've been a member of your great forum here for over 3 years now. I first joined in 2007 (I think) to ask questions regarding my Route 66 trip that summer and found the members really helpful.
This year I've made a website about my experiences and hope to share some of the lessons I learnt when planning my trip with others in the same boat. I've just added a link to the video section in the forums but realise I should have posted here first to ask if that was okay. If so, and you like the website or think that it could be useful to others, would you consider adding it to your "links" page? I couldn't think of a better endorsement than from Historic66!
Many thanks,
Steve Bellamy from Wales, UK
